Hi there, Thank you so much for passing by! Tonight, I'm late-reviewing deathrock band from Portland, mentioned above. I've been listening to this EP long enough, and I'm still hooked. Tags such as punkrock, glam rock, goth & postpunk, on their Bandcamp; band members from amazing backgrounds, united back in 2021 to provide us with 'The' experience if you're into these subgenres. With members from Temple of Angels, Haunter, Adrenochrome, False Figure, Cruz de Navajas, Zotz, B-WARD, and Trance to The Moon, what they have to offer goes from the distinctive postpunk to such a mad deathrock. If you like the sound of Xmal Deutschland (just to mention one), I really suggest you to take a look throughout Nyx Division discography. The most recent EP is called Dark Star with a total of six (6) tracks of approx. 4 mins. each; and a whole story to tell. 1. Reckless Dark (3:40): There's no 'intro-track'. The band goes straight to the point. I couldn't get rid of the catchy phrase 'Don't grow cold for a miracle' at the min. 1:45. 2. Featherless (3:04): Drummer should have the spotlight on a live performance to this song... fierce! 3. Orchid Rain (4:14): This song have a 'majestic' intro. Should be good for opening a show. Main character in this story is having an adventure. Great to send to that 'special person' you may have. 4. Anybody's Fool (3:04): Time to relax a little to enjoy this track with a similar rhythmic pattern we can hear within London After Midnight track 'Your Best Nightmare'. However, lyric wise, this is a 'crushing from cloud no.: 9 (nine)' scenario, following 'the' adventure our main character had on previous track. 5. Renegade (3:16): 'Life on a precipice, Loving you still'. What I like from postpunk is that typically lyrics are often sad and/or melancholic, but music goes in some sort of 'denial'. This time, thought, Nyx Division is keeping the chords in 'suspense'; giving me such a cliffhanger feeling. Very fun to hear. 6. Dark Star (3:14): I felt some sort of a structure similar to Fields of the Nephilim, 'Laura' track. However, it brings all the glam, I must point out that I don't know if it was the mastering process, but vocals gives me this beautiful but unapologetic Anja Huwe & Florence Welch vibes. On my humble and very limited experienced musical view, this is the new-hit of the year for BatCave Productions. Evan Mersky in Portland & Parrillat in Mexico; both did a great job with the mixing and mastering. This Debut EP was released back in March 4th, 2022 and you can get it on cassette and vinyl via Play Alone Records & on CD vis BatCave Productions Spring/Summer 2022. Official release dates pending.
